Coimbatore: 37K diabetic patients to be benefited from the Govt. scheme

In Coimbatore, through the state government′s ‘Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam’ programme, the department of public health and preventive medicine has identified more than 37,000 new diabetic patients.

Currently, around 75,000 diabetic patients were undergoing medication as per the health department’s advice and had details of 1.12 lakh diabetic patients in the district.

K Vijayakumar, the district programme officer of non-communicable diseases (NCD) said that the new patients were identified after the nurses and women health volunteers screened the beneficiaries for symptoms of diabetes and blood pressure.

He said that under the guidance of deputy director of health services (DDHS) P Aruna, within seven months of the programme, the health department has identified 37,000 new patients who have been suffering from diabetes.
